A song written only for them, by DJ Kountry

I didn't begin writing songs because I was chasing fame. I began because I wanted my daughter Ashley—and the generations who come after us—to have a musical record of who I was. I wanted my future great-great-grandchildren to hear our family stories, understand where they came from, and feel like they knew their granddad through the music he left behind.

Songwriting also carried me through some of the hardest chapters of my life. It helped me process heartbreak, divorce, change, and the struggle of rebuilding. Then it helped me celebrate the good again: family, love, small-town friendships, ranch-country roots, river weekends, and the funny stories you simply couldn't make up.

Eventually, I realized this could become something bigger than my own story. Other families have memories worth preserving too. A photograph can capture how someone looked, but a song can preserve how they loved, what they survived, the laughter they shared, and what they meant to the people around them.
